10,000 pairs of pointe shoes

Past, present, future

10,000 pairs brimming with brilliance, courage, sweat and tireless work.

10,000 pairs that have accompanied first steps, celebrated successes and endured countless rehearsals.

10,000 silent witnesses to a passion that connects generations.

There is that one moment every dancer knows and never forgets.

The moment when she holds her first pair of pointe shoes in her hands.

They still smell of glue and fabric; they are still hard and feel a little unfamiliar. Even yet they already embody everything little dancers dream of lightness, grace, the stage, magic. With a pounding heart, the ribbons are tied for the first time, a small ritual that has been performed unchanged for generations.

The first steps on pointe are cautious, hesitant, a feeling one’s way, a search for balance. Between courage and control, every muscle and every tendon is working. It is not just a step upwards; it is a step into a new world of ballet training.

And finally, the long-awaited moment arrives: the first dance on pointe on stage. The magic of the lighting, the music and the fusion of dancer and pointe shoe into a perfect dance.

But the path to get there is not an easy one.

Every pointe shoe is a silent witness to hard work, countless hours at the barre, and magnificent performances and appearances.

In the past, these shoes were still a very rough companion. Reinforced with thin layers of wood inside, they were often hard and unyielding. Dancers stuffed wool into the toes to protect their feet.

Today, pointe shoes are little marvels. Finely tuned, adapted to the individual foot, almost like a ‘slipper’. Despite the enormous advancements in pointe shoe design, two things have remained unchanged: their unmistakable shape and the stories, the love, the sweat and the work that go into them.

And that is precisely what unites all past, present and future dancers of the Oremek-Reeves Ballet School. A ballet tradition that connects generations and weaves an invisible bond between all dancers. Whether past, present or future.

These pointe shoes tell just as many stories as our costumes in the wardrobe or the countless photos, programmes, posters and backdrops from 60 years of ballet school history.

Over 10,000 pairs of pointe shoes… a figure that seems almost beyond comprehension, and yet these countless pairs of pointe shoes have carried us from the past into the present and will continue to carry us into the future as a constant feature of our teaching.

We can look to the future with confidence and say quite clearly:

“The future of the Oremek-Reeves Ballet School is and always will be on pointe!”

Warm regards,

Yours, Jasmin
