Hello dear ballet friends,
I warmly welcome you to the first of twelve newsletters in the anniversary year of the Oremek-Reeves Ballet School.
The number of the month is 623.
Why 623? Because it represents 623 steps into a new world!
On November 3rd, 1966, a story began that continues to inspire and move generations to this day. Exactly 623 steps separated the Oremek family’s home at Langwiesenweg 15 from the parish hall of the Protestant Church Zur Himmelspforte (“Gateway to Heaven”).
The idea of offering ballet lessons in Ober-Eschbach was born through the initiative of Pastor Krause. And so, Waltraud Oremek – a former soloist at various state theatres – set off with eight children. After 623 steps, the curtain rose for the very first ballet lesson, laying the foundation for what would become the Oremek-Reeves Ballet School’s enduring success story.
These 623 steps were far more than a journey from A to B. They marked the beginning of a lifetime’s work, driven by passion, courage, and the vision of introducing children and young people to the beauty of ballet and classical music.
Today, 59 years later, we look back on those humble beginnings: the small steps that led to great dreams.
In this anniversary year, our motto remains:
“Tradition dances with the future.”
Then as now and for all generations to come.
Warm regards,
Jasmin
